EPA plans to repeal Clean Power Plan, major Obama-era climate rule

EPA plans to repeal Clean Power Plan, major Obama-era climate rule”

An analysis by the Rhodium Group found that market conditions and the plummeting price of renewables will result in substantial emissions reductions around the country, even without the Clean Power Plan. "The EPA welcomes comment on the legal interpretation addressed in this proposed rulemaking".

After having announced in June his decision to leave the Paris agreement, the administration Trump is preparing to repeal a key measure of the ex-us president Barack Obama on the climate, through the implementation of a campaign promise of the republican candidate for the recovery of the u.s. mining industry, which has been denounced by environmentalists.

Environmental and climate groups such as the Sierra Club and the Hoosier Environmental Council have long supported the Clean Power Plan. Or that the U.S. Supreme Court issued a stay of it in February 2016. "Any replacement rule will be done carefully, properly, and with humility, by listening to all those affected by the rule".

The Senate Majority Leader says he thinks less regulation combined with tax reform could help re-ignite the US economy. He said ending the plan would take pressure off some cash-strapped utilities that still relied on coal-fired power plants.

U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt said Monday he will sign Tuesday a repeal of the Clean Power Plan, a policy aimed at reducing power plant emissions.

While 40,000 workers in the state are employed in "traditional energy" jobs, dominated by extraction related to oil and gas, just over 5,000 work in electric power generation, a field that employees more than 3,000 solar workers, 1,000 wind electricity workers, considered growing sectors, and just 222 people in coal generation.

NFL Week 5 TNF pick: Take Buccaneers and points vs. Patriots
The Patriots and Buccaneers will meet in the regular season for the first time since 2013 and the ninth time overall. But this is New England and they have shown themselves to be resilient even when things are not clicking.

"Scott Pruitt says the so-called war on coal is over, but the Trump administration's war on children's health is escalating", said Cook. Pennsylvania is the fourth biggest coal producer in the country, but there were only 6,400 coal miners in Pennsylvania in 2015, down from 8,400 in 2011, according to the state's Department of Labor & Industry.

The standards were developed under an act of Congress, called the Clean Air Act.

Myron Ebell, head of the non-profit libertarian think tank Competitive Enterprise Institute, however, cheered the repeal as a step "designed to get the economy moving again". "Repealing the CPP will spur new investment and create new jobs in energy-intensive manufacturing and resource industries".

Pruitt said that the Obama administration had exceeded its authority in an attempt to limit greenhouse gas emissions from power plants.

The decision goes in line with June's decision to withdraw the United States from Paris Agreement with the wider aim to revive the U.S. coal industry and boost domestic fossil fuels production.

TVA has already shut down its John Sevier, Widows Creek and Colbert fossil plants to cut its carbon emissions by more than 35 percent in the past 12 years, and soon will shutter more units at its Allen, Johnsonville and Paradise coal plants.
